Section 11(3)(c) of the Companies Act 2008 provides that:

“a company name, irrespective of its form or language, must end with ……

  • …..
  • the expression “Proprietary Limited” or its abbreviation “(Pty) Ltd.” in the case of a private company.

Of interest is the fact that the word “Proprietary” is not to be bracketed, while the abbreviation “Pty” must be bracketed.

Not sure if this is an oversight on the part of the team who drafted the legislation, or if it was specifically decided that this would be the new way in which it should be reflected.
